Message from Southeast Georgia Alliance Chairman, James Coughlin
Greetings from your beautiful Georgia coast! We so miss hosting you here and visiting you in Atlanta. Hopefully we’ll soon be able to return to the type of face-to-face relationship building that makes this business so great! Here in Southeast Georgia, we have worked together to share ideas that have allowed us to not just survive, but thrive during this past year. I hope you’ll enjoy learning about the activity taking place throughout the region in this new quarterly newsletter.
From a new company coming to Brantley County to a new industrial park in Wayne, this region and the Economic Development professionals I am proud to call friends have put together some impressive projects for their communities. Glynn County has stepped up to meet the equipment needs of a local manufacturer while Project Iron-Man in Camden is part of a recent group of companies leaving Florida for our business-friendly environment in Georgia. McIntosh County is now home to a new riverfront resort while perhaps the best announcement of all comes out of Charlton County where Ashley Gowan has added baby Grant to her team!
Thank YOU all for your flexibility and your ongoing support of our efforts. We have been impressed with your adaptability and hopefully you’ve felt the same commitment to overcome from us. Please check out our website at segalliance.com and let us know how we can best partner with you to attract and grow business in Georgia.
See you soon!
Message from SEGA Alliance
First of all, we miss seeing you! Our hope is that everyone is well and the new normal will soon return to the state, bringing back our face to face meetings. In the meantime, we want to keep you up to date with this newsletter on what is happening in this region. I hope you find it both helpful and are surprised at the progress our region is making in both growing the industrial base and the educational support for the future needs of our labor force.
For those of you who have never had the opportunity to get to know us, we give a special welcome. The Southeast GA Alliance is the initiative of the six counties closest to the east Florida state line. Brantley, Camden, Charlton, Glynn, McIntosh and Wayne joined together in 2005 to promote economic development in this region. This location gives us access to all modes of transportation via regional and international airports and ports in Brunswick, Savannah and Jacksonville, Interstate highways I-95, I-16 and I-10 and several main access four lane highways, and an industrial base of aerospace, food processing, chemical, wood products and machining companies to name a few.
A lot has been accomplished in the last sixteen years, including funding for GRAD sites, a revolving fund used to close the gap on smaller projects, a labor study led by consultant Kate McEnroe, a deal closing fund and actual project sharing to help locate companies on the best site in the region.
This year the Board voted to fund an analysis of the region’s assets and target industries by Site Selection Guild members. This analysis will help both of us in marketing to industrial and office companies as we gain an understanding of what projects fit this region and why.
Our website is always available for you to get up to date information and research data. Please visit it at any time: www.segalliance.com. Of course you can also call me, at 912.429.2000, or any of the six development authorities to ask about the region.
We look forward to seeing you soon and if not in person, we plan to host another virtual get together next quarter.
Peggy Jolley, Manager
